Karakia

This karakia (prayer) acknowledges the natural medicinal properties of Kawakawa recognising the inner and outer purity it radiates. It speaks to Kawakawa as a sacred taonga (treasure) that holds and permeates integrity, essence and healing properties.

“Urutapu ki roto,

Urutapu ki waho,

Tāmāua tō mana,

Tāmāua tō mauri,

Tāmāua tō Rongoā,

He aro matua,

He aro tīpua,

Nāu e kawakawa e”

Karakia

This karakia is one our rangatahi draw on when working in our māra (gardens) and in the environment. It acknowledges the connection between the skies, lands, seas and ourselves as people of the land.

“Tuhia ki te rangi

Tuhia ki te whenua

Tuhia ki te moana

Tuhia ki te ngäkau

E rongo te po

E rongo te ao

Tihei mauri ora!”

“It is written in the skies

It is written in the lands

It is written in the seas

It is written in our hearts

so that it may be heard by the departed

And the living

Tis the breath of life!”
